Children's Vision Brochures

The Eyes of Children: order our free brochure, available in 11 languages!

To help prevent visual impairment in children, we have created a brochure called “The Eyes of Children”. It provides a simple, fun and illustrated way to detect an eyesight disorder in your child.

You can order this brochure for free in AlbanianGermanEnglishArabicBrazilianSpanishFrenchItalianPortugueseSerbian and Swedish, or download it in PCe, and you will learn about children’s vision.

This brochure is intended to be exhaustive, which is why it is divided into several sections.

Here, you can find a list of common visual problems and tips on when to see an ophthalmologist and perform an eye exam if a symptom occurs. These include headaches, swollen eyelids, poor near vision, visual fatigue and discomfort in bright light.

We explain how family history can influence your children’s eye heath, and warrant early screening by an eye specialist to avoid a possible eye disorder.

The back of the brochure is an illustration that can be used to perform a simple eye test at home, for an initial screening of eye disorders.

Have you always wanted to know how your child’s vision develops? Here is a timeline that explains each stage, from blurred vision in black and white at birth to its complete development at around 7 years old.

A reminder on the importance of binocular vision and the risks associated with amblyopia. As well as the means to correct this pathology with an orthoptist.

Some illustrated examples of common vision problems, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, strabismus and cataracts.

Has your child been diagnosed with a refractive disorder requiring glasses? Before going to the optician, read a few tips to choose the right glasses.

New: How to prevent the risk of myopia in your child

Children are increasingly myopic at an early age. This is partly due to bad habits that impair visual function.

In particular, screens and poor lifestyle hygiene can cause increased eye fatigue and, in the long term, require optical correction.

To prevent your child from becoming myopic, we have published a brochure (only in French) that explains in 3 simple rules the best practices to adopt to preserve his or her visual health.

The brochures were written by Dr Pierre-François Kaeser, a university lecturer and clinical researcher, director of the paediatric strabology and ophthalmology unit, and Dr Nathalie Voide, a doctor in the paediatric strabology and ophthalmology unit at the Jules-Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital.
