Several eye diseases can affect the health of your children’s eyes. It is therefore important to be aware of the various pathologies so that you can visit a specialist and carry out the ophthalmological examination needed to detect them.

Eye disorders can, for example, affect the eyelid, one or both eyes, the lens, the cornea, the optic nerve, the glands at the eyelashes, the tear duct or the retina. The first warning signs are usually a red eye, discomfort, double vision, decreased vision, blurred vision, poor visual acuity, runny eyes, repeated headaches…

It is important to visit an eye specialist (optometrist, orthoptist, or ophthalmologist) with your child for a quick screening. A symptom that is treated early is much more likely to be easily cured.

The solutions put in place can, for example, be the administration of eye drops, or the prescription of corrective glasses or lenses. In rare cases, surgical treatment may be necessary after additional examinations (imaging).
