Just because a child does not respond when passing from darkness to light does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the eyes.

However, this symptom could be associated with other signs linked to poor vision, such as extreme closeness of objects, lack of fixation or eye tracking, spontaneous abnormal eye movements, no blinking at threat, untimely rubbing of the eyes or stereotypical movements.

These signs can suggest visual impairment in children and require an ophthalmologic assessment.
